SILAT Training Weapons Chabang Tekpi or SAI Maul Mornie
Fluid moves from MAUL MORNIE with the Chabang (Indonesia), Tekpi (Malay) or Sai. The Tekpi is a short-handled trident from Southeast Asia. Known as tekpi in Malay, it is called chabang or cabang in Indonesian, siang tépi in Hokkien, and trisul in Thai. More than a weapon, it is also important as a Hindu-Buddhist symbol.
Popularised in the West by Japanese arts originating in Okinawa before its arrival in Okinawa, the sai was already being used in other Asian countries including India, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. The Indonesian form of the sai is called a chabang or tjabang, in Malaysia and Brunei its is known as Tekpi. It is used by practitioners of Silat, Malay Kuntau and Buah Pukul. Said to have been developed from the Indian trisula, early evidence in the form of Javanese art shows that the Tjabang predates the sai's use in Okinawa and China.
Silat is not a duelling art, it's not a sport, it is all about SURVIVAL.
